Warm welcome, relaxed, friendly atmosphere, great food and excellent service. The free wi-fi was greatly appreciated, as was the fast connection speed. The gardens were lovely, and the perfect place to relax with a pint after a day's work. This was the perfect hotel for a business trip. Will definitely stay again when next in the area on business.

    Nothing not to like.

The cleanliness of the hotel and the room we stayed in, and particularly the excellent quality of the meal we had in the restaurant.

Dated bathroom with poor lighting; a cold feel

    Location

The hotel was overpriced for what was on offer. On arrival, the ceiling in our bathroom had fallen into the bath - plaster everywhere. When reported to reception, the reception staff replied with 'oh, it's because of the heavy rain' and it took until the day we checked out (3 days later) for them to even apologise for this or check it. As we were travelling with a small baby, we feel this was unacceptable. In addition to this, I booked a double room and we were given a twin room upon check- in. This wouldn't have been so bad except that there were holes in the duvet cover and the beds were ridiculously soft! On the morning of our check-out, workmen were hammering/drilling in the room next door to us at 9am and woke up the baby - not acceptable as check-out wasn't til 11am. When we asked reception to ask them to stop, the said that they didn't know a baby was sleeping at that point! I wouldn't have thought that should matter - there is a window between 11am and 2pm where there are no hotel guests when this type of maintenance could take place.

Excellent food, and best for value.

welcoming staff and location for visiting family and friends in the area.

    Friendly helpful staff, comfortable bed.

Floorboards creaking when guests were walking past my room, though this should be expected given the age of the building. Only place you could watch the TV was if you lay on the bed (room 6). Limited menu

Easy to find, reasonable price, good parking

Thin bedroom walls, no heating in bathroom, shower poor.

All the staff were friendly and helpful. When I expressed some concerns to the GM he seemed appreciative of our comments and said he would take the appropriate action. I had three guests in for dinner and service was good, both in the Bar and Restaurant. Certainly the food was of a good standard. Breakfasts were good and nicely served. The garden around the Hotel was pleasant and well kept. Car parking good.

We were in room 9 which was well below a three star standard ie antique furniture that didn't function easily. Too many steps causing trip hazards. Space between the corner of the bath and opposite wall was only 12 inches in order to reach the toilet. Generally the room was too small to accommodate the amount of furniture. If the other rooms are the same standard as room 9 it is difficult to justify a 3 star grading.

Clean hotel with character. Staff helpful, polite and friendly. Bedrooms a good size but in the winter colder than would like but not freezing.

The bed mattress was rock hard and uncomfortable.

    Almost everything.

The hot water took almost ten minutes to through. I thought I was going to have to have a cold shower.

Very friendly and helpful staff, nice breakfast.

Soap holder in the shower was very dirty, not sure if rust, mould or mixture of the two, looked like it had never been cleaned. Rest of room was clean though.
